What to look for in a Painting Contractor
So you’re ready to finally start painting the walls a new color to liven up your home, but which contractor should you choose? You already know that hiring a contractor will save you time and money in the long run but still are unsure about how to proceed. Here are a few easy tips for selecting a painting contractor that will help you narrow down your search.
- Experience: How long has the contractor been perfecting their craft? Checking how long the contractor has been in business is a logical first step, especially since this profession has a high turnover rate. Generally, if the contractor has two or more years they have enough experience to complete a project well.
- Legal Licensing: You want to make sure that you and your home are legally covered and the best way to do that is to make sure your contractor has all the proper licenses. Check to see if they have a state-issued license in addition to general liability insurance and workers compensation insurance.
- Proposal: How does the contractor prepare for the upcoming project? Watch out for contractors that don’t offer a proposal option. You might save more upfront, but the quality will be inferior.
- Check the References: Make sure to look into the contractor’s prior work to see if other customers were satisfied with the quality of work. You can also check visual examples of the work to see if that is what you would like implemented in your own home or business.
- Knowledge: Bring your question to the contractor and see if they can make recommendations. You want to know what sort of materials they are using and what techniques they are employing.
